Do you love all kinds of outdoor activities? Do you enjoy hiking to the peak of a mountain one day, riding some trails on your mountain bike the next, and dipping your kayak paddle into cool, fresh waters the following day? Would you like to learn more about outdoor activities in the incredible surrounding environment of Whistler? If this sound like something you would like to do, and you like to be active and have a passion for outdoor sports, the Outdoor Program is for you. It can be the best summer you have ever experienced.
Students in our outdoor program experience training in one of the world’s largest outdoor recreational areas. The mountain bike park and cross-country trails offer more terrain than any other place. There are 5 nearby areas where the students have access to experience kayaking and canoeing and 15 white water rivers all within one hour of Whistler. The program is offered for those with a basic ability up to a very advanced level. Students have the opportunity to start at a beginner level and can improve in both instructional methods and techniques.
The moutain bike park boasts over 300 km of single-track and is quickly becoming known as the free ride capital of the world. Students are instructed in biking techniques on cross-country single trails as well as downhill mountain biking.
Paddling can be enjoyed at all levels and the program can easily be adapted to meet the level and style of each student. All levels are taught to meet the standards of WKABC and assessments are done by qualified instructors.
There is opportunity for students to participate in a weekly cross-country race for locals and to volunteer at outdoor sporting events which also improves their English communication. To complete their experience, students take advantage of the many other outdoor activities in the community of Whistler; such as hiking, overnight backpacking and mountain biking. CSBA’s program makes use of this high quality recreational environment to instruct students.
Instructor programs are offered in various terms, from short term to full summer season programs.
The ‘Learn English Through Sport’ programs are designed to learn English in a Canadian environment while you are working on your sporting qualifications. Learning English should be fun and thanks to our programs, learning is easy.
Summer in Whistler is full of outdoor opportunities and our program takes advantage of this and enjoys it as much as possible. Several classes such as biking, canoeing and kayaking will help you to improve your skills to meet the course requirements, but also to learn something new about nature and gain more outdoor skills. For hikes and backpacking, it is important to learn the basic survival skills and how to deal with the possible dangers of outdoor wilderness. Practical classes such as orientation, backpacking theory and first aid will teach you survival basics. So, once finishing our program you will be able to explore more natural environments on your own. English as an international language is beneficial for traveling. Learning English through various sports can be a lot of fun, making your progress more efficient. Students attend general English classes to improve grammar and prepare for other sport classes which are presented in English. Moreover, we conduct lessons in Standard First Aid, team building, and offer several hiking, overnight trips and multiday expeditions to make the experience true to life.
To help our students gain as much experience as possible, our academy can provide assistance to get you a work permit for the period of your study. (Season programs only).
