English Through Snowboarding - Snowboard Instructor Program

Students in this program will attempt ESL English classes in addition to the Sport classes.

Do you want to learn practical English, be better rider and understand the technique? Does this sound like something you would like to do? Then, if you like snowboarding and have a passion for the sport, being a snowboard instructor is exactly what you need.

The goal of the instructor program is to improve snowboard skills and acquire the skills necessary to meet the Snowboard Instructor Qualifications of Canada- mainly attaining Level I and/or Level II CASI. With the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) license, it is easy to work all over the world. This license is recognized internationally and meets all the requirements of ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association). Students receive classroom instruction as well as on-mountain instruction to improve both riding and teaching abilities.  Teaching methods, class management, safety and snowboard instruction are all part of the course.  The students take part in training classes to improve physical strength and balance and many hours are spent working on snowboard techniques.  Students also take part in English classes.

Whistler is one of the top word ski resorts for many years and is offering the best ski conditions for more than 5 months a year. Its easy to improve your ski technique and have fun while you are skiing. Whistler is very busy town with many night clubs and bars to relax after all day training, or you can join another outdoor activities while you are in Whistler.

A good instructor has strong technical and leadership skills, understands safety and organizes his classes and lessons to best suit the needs of his clients. Our Instructor Program has all the components to enable students to succeed at this.  The program instructors come with many years of experience in the snowboard industry, are from all over the world and work with our students to help them become good leaders and instructors.

Our school works together with Whistler Blackcomb Ski School to provide our students with practical experience after finishing their certifications. You can then easily begin your career in sports business.

Program length:

Instructor programs are offered for various terms:

1. one or two years long programs
2. winter season programs
3. short GAP 10 weeks programs

English and training:

The ‘Learn English Through Sports’ programs are designed to learn English in a Canadian environment while you are working on your sporting qualifications. Learning English should be fun and thanks to our programs, learning is easy.

All year programs only:

Summer is the time to gain flexibility and strength for the winter season and that is why classes such as trampoline and skateboarding are offered.  There is also more time for indoor study, so English is offered to give students a solid background before the training in English begins. Gym training at Meadow Park Sports Centre is an important part of a student’s progression to build the fitness level needed for the long winter. Summer offers countless opportunities to discover the amazing environment surrounding Whistler. We have several team building activities and hike expeditions on the schedule. Even in summer, there is still plenty of opportunity to ride on the glacier so CSBA offers 4 more weeks of riding during the summer.

All winter programs (year round, season courses and GAP year programs):

The winter season is really long and most of the time we ride all day, practice new tricks and enjoy fresh snow under the close watch of our coaches. All the time spent on snow is done in English.   That is why it is so important to learn English over the summer. Indoor English classes are also provided in winter, but the hours are reduced to 8 hours for 8 weeks. The students are also taking part in indoor classes as video analysis and instructor theory. Even though training is so much fun, everyone needs a little bit of relax time as well.   We offer an avalanche course and a winter expedition (overnight camping) to practice our avalanche skills in the back country.

Work experience:

To help our students gain as much experience as possible, our academy can provide assistance to get you the work permit for the period of your study. (for all year and season programs only)

3. Trampoline: Control balance in the air (All year programs only)
4. Skateboard: Obtain solid riding position without bindings (All year programs only)

6. Snowboard Theory: Learn various kind of knowledge as an instructor.
7. Conditioning: Be aware of own body
8. Physical Training: Avoid injuries, keep enough body strength for year training, help increasing performance
9. On-snow ESL: Improve English skills, practical use of English on the mountain
10. Instructor English: Prepare for CASI exam, learn practical instructional vocabulary
11. Team building: Learn to be a leader, make decisions and take responsibility for others
